I think I’ve finally figured out why I don’t like platform-style wedge mules: Because there’s
nothing up top to balance out the big chunk of heel, it gives women Frankenfoot — those big clunky feet like Frankenstein always is clodding around in.
Plus, the stained-glass-style pattern on this Giuseppe Zanotti wedge is pretty dark and attention-getting, which only exacerbates the effect. I don’t think it’s necessarily the color of the shoe itself, considering that I (and several readers) found this wedge in a similar shade of yellow adorable, but rather the treatment of the wedge. It looks heavy — and rather than making short women look taller, wearing these would make them look like short women running around on tall shoes.
Think I’m joking? Pretty much the sole difference (god, I crack myself up) between this week’s shoe — which, for the record, is $650 — and the Frankenfeet at left is the color palette, and the fact that the Scottsdale women who’ll buy the Zanotti wedge make sure their surgery scars are behind their ears, instead of across their foreheads.
But what do you think — am I full of it? Cast your vote in the poll below by clicking on your choice (or creating your own answer!) and hitting “enter.” And feel free to leave a comment below that — it’s not required to vote in the poll, but everyone who does leave a comment will be entered to win three tubes of Clinique’s new Long Last Glosswear with SPF 15. I’ll select one winner from the entries received by noon Friday, May 9. Good luck!
UPDATE: Congratulations to Elaine, whose comment was chosen as the winner.
