‘Runway’ injunction, what’s your function?

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008 by Sam Mittelsteadt

Last week’s court ruling that blocks the producers of “Project Runway” from moving the show from Bravo to Lifetime means … well, a lot of things, according to Jossip. The most important to you and me: Viewers might have to wait until NEXT fall for the next season.

But after this season, I have to wonder if it’s even worth watching.  After all, I’m already distracted by “Top Design,” “Tabatha’s Salon Takeover” (a hairstyling version of “Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares”) and this week “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style.”

‘Project Runway’ 5.10: What’s with the pants?

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008 by Sam Mittelsteadt

The finger pointing has come to an end!

The third-person references, the Madonna lyrics — and relatively insipid, OLD lyrics, at that. … No, I will not miss Suede.

And yet: Those pants.

Lohan to judge ‘Runway’

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008 by Sam Mittelsteadt

Great celebrity appeal, lousy fashion appeal.

I’m guessing the theme of the challenge will be: Crotchless leggings.  Or, maybe, it’s just “please make some clothes for Lindsay Lohan. Except for ‘Ugly Betty,’ she hasn’t worked in a while.”

And it could always be worse: The judge could be Dina. Or Alli.

Project Runway 5.9: The recap

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008 by Sam Mittelsteadt

It’s the annual Mom Challenge — only this year’s variation is that the moms will oversee outfits for recent college graduates instead of proms. But Kenley’s attitude is beginning to grate on me — I know, I’m behind the curve on this one.

Lopez out as ‘Runway’ judge

Sunday, September 14th, 2008 by Sam Mittelsteadt

A foot injury? Really? The rumors about Jennifer Lopez’s last-minute withdrawal from the “Project Runway” finale are flying. Well, anything that lets Tim Gunn be a judge for once is OK with me.

The Kansas City Star has a sneak peek at one look from each of the six remaining contestants, who showed Friday at New York Fashion Week.

Project Runway 5.8: 2 exits for the price of 1

Thursday, September 11th, 2008 by Sam Mittelsteadt

You know how people usually don’t like the sound of their own voices? For example: I won’t listen to my outgoing message on my phone because it sounds so … not like what I’m used to hearing from the inside. And I wonder: When Kenley watches episodes of “Project Runway,” does she realize how awful her voice is?

A gaggle of ‘Runway’ news

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008 by Sam Mittelsteadt

All courtesy of the folks at Reality TV News. …

First: It’s rumored that Jennifer Lopez will be the judge on the season finale, which tapes Friday at New York Fashion Week. I wonder if they’ll give her more time than Victoria Beckham? I have to say I’d be more excited if Posh Spice showed up in my outfit, as opposed to J. Lo. Look! Here they are side by side at the Marc Jacobs show. Does Posh have a pixie now? (Click on photo to see full-size version.)

Next: Last season’s winner Christian Siriano is designing a gown for the Emmy awards. I would be more excited about this news if the dress was going to appear on an actual celebrity instead of a “trophy girl,” a feat that puts him in league with Lauren Conrad. I guess with reality-show hosts taking on emcee duties at this year’s ceremony, it makes sense to throw as many reality-show designers into the mix as well. Maybe the sets can be divvied up among this season’s “Design Star” contestants, and “Shear Genius” winner Dee can do someone’s hair.

Last: Lifetime announced last week that it has pushed back the program’s new-network premiere from November to January. And in doing so, revealed the network’s not really sure how often it runs (or gave a hint as to production cycles to come).

‘Project Runway’ 5.7: The recap

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 by Sam Mittelsteadt

Stella B. Zotis, I think you are awesome in your own lea-thuh sort of way.  I would never wear your clothing, and I don’t think you’re cut out for a career in fashion-fashion, but you could rock your look for 30 more years and I would do nothing but cheer you on. Especially because you called out Rachel Zoe’s crap taste on national TV.

The fact you got sent home this week? I’m sure it was totally coincidental, and had nothing to do with Zoe’s reality series that also airs on Bravo.

‘Project Runway’ on Lifetime: What to expect?

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 by Sam Mittelsteadt

The writers at one of my favorite blogs, The Pen15 Club, don’t update very often … and as a result I forget to check in for months. (Note to self: Do not let do the same thing to Sammit readers.)  So I just now found Rob’s April 8 take on what will happen when “Project Runway” moves to the Lifetime network next season.

I think my favorite is “Nina Garcia replaced on panel by Valerie Bertinelli.” The whole post is here.

Project Runway 5.6: The recap

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008 by Sam Mittelsteadt

Still smarting from his dressing-down at the last challenge, Keith decides this week to present something tailored and “toned down.”
