May 2nd, 2008, 3:38 pm by Sam Mittelsteadt

Valley-based skin care and cosmetics company Philosophy is opening its second stand-alone store in the East Valley — and the country! — this week. (Well, technically it’s the third store, if you count the long-gone shop on Mill Avenue, where I first got introduced to the line.)

The grand opening of the store at Dana Park shopping center, on the northwest corner of Baseline Road and Val Vista Drive, is scheduled for April 10 and to celebrate, the lovely folks at Philosophy let me pick out a few of their new items for a Tribune giveaway. See below for how to enter.

Win products from C.O. Bigelow!

April 20th, 2008, 9:51 am by Sam Mittelsteadt

If you read my Great Stuff column in Sunday’s Tribune (and I will post the item on my blog when I return from vacation on Tuesday), you read about the giveaway: The folks at Bath & Body Works were kind enough to hand over some booty from their lemon skin care line — everything from creamy body cleanser to hand soap.

(No, I won’t forward them to our circulation department or anything.)  Make sure to use the words LEMON LINE in your subject field.  I’ll draw one winner from the entries received by Friday, Aril 25. Good luck!

New organic line at Paradise Valley Skin Klinic

February 14th, 2008, 10:14 am by Sam Mittelsteadt

(Yes, that’s supposed to be Klinic with a K.)

skinklinic.jpgThe clinic founded by Paradise Valley plastic surgeon Daniel Shapiro has introduced its own line of 16 organic, clinical-grade skin care products — everything from toner (Taut and Toned for either normal to dry or oily skin, $30) to eye cream (Eye Love It for normal to dry skin, $50, pictured). The release says the line of fragrance-free products was developed for anti-aging and postrecovery skin care.

The line brings means the clinic could attract three levels of customers: (1) Surgery — Shapiro is an expert in everything from lipo to face lifts. (2) Medspa — the clinic offers high-intensity treatments like Thermage and Fotofacials, and traditional day spa services like waxing and traditional facials. (3) Cosmetic — those just looking for a new face cream.

The clinic is at 5410 N. Scottsdale Road, Suite F-100, Scottsdale. Information: (480) 421-1701 or the company’s web site.

SPEAKING OF EYE LOVE IT: Want to try it out? I’ve got one 1-ounce container to give to a reader. Click on this link to send me an e-mail with your name, mailing address and the subject line SKIN KLINIC. I’ll draw one winner from the entries received by noon Friday, Feb. 22. Good luck!

Reader giveaway: “The Fug Awards” book

February 11th, 2008, 12:43 pm by Sam Mittelsteadt

The women behind the web site Go Fug Yourself went beyond just rehashing old posts for their book “The Fug Awards” — they’ve created whole categories like “The Dr. Nooooo!” for most tragic surgical choices, “The Sag Award” for most egregious misuse of the privilege of having breasts and “The Fug of All Fugs,” sort of like best picture, only it’s the worst dresser.

Want to win? Click on this link and and to send me an e-mail with your name and mailing address — and the subject line FUG AWARDS. I’ll draw one winner from the entries received by noon Friday, Feb. 15.

UPDATE 2/15/08: Congratulations to Tiffany Dantzler of White Lake, MI, whose name was chosen to win the book.

Fragrance contest winners

October 19th, 2007, 6:10 pm by Sam Mittelsteadt

It took a month from beginning to end, but I’ve finally selected the readers to receive fragrances included in my last few Great Stuff columns.

So congratulate — or envy — Valerie Gardner of Mesa, Miachelle DePiano of Gilbert; Lisa Krpata of Queen Creek; Kim Welker of Mesa; Heather Leppert of Torrance, Calif.; Sandra Koenig of Apache Junction; and Mike Lasch of Mesa. Their various scents are winging their way to them right now.

Now that things seem to be up and running, look for plenty of other chances to win free schwag here.  Think I’m joking? Every Thursday I post a “Shoe Hot or Not?” inviting readers to comment, and select one winner each week.
