Great Stuff: Cannabis Rose by Fresh

I came back from my first trip to San Francisco a couple of months ago all giddy — people were wearing layers and sweaters! In July! It was the one city I’ve visited that made me consider what life would be somewhere … less sunny. Could I deal with a straight month of rain? Still not sure about that.
Because I had packed only a carry-on, I had to be cautious about what I bought: Clothing was easy, since all that had to be considered was size. But when my friend Michael and I hit the Fresh store, I found something that I liked so much I had it shipped home. The story is below ….
After I profiled the Fresh cologne Cannabis Santal back in mid-2006 one of my co-workers — not really a cologne kind of guy — really fell for the fragrance. So I kept the little vial-on-card in my desk drawer and whenever I felt generous, I’d drag the dropper across a strip of paper and leave it on his keyboard. (I never felt generous enough to part with the vial itself — after all, I liked it, too!) So when I was in San Francisco I stopped into the Fresh store and decided to buy a full-size bottle.
But when I brought it to the counter, I changed my mind.
Instead, I opted for a similar fragrance I hadn’t noticed before — Cannabis Rose ($75 at Sephora and fresh.com), a more intensely floral equivalent. Cannabis Santal had included Bulgarian rose, too, but buried it a bit more (perhaps because it’s proferred as a men’s scent). Cannabis Rose, meanwhile, proffers its fragrant petals proudly — there’s no mistaking which flower comes roaring out in the top notes. But after a few minutes the scent deepens beyond that first impression, with hints of rich patchouli and oolong tea. It’s just as intoxicating as Cannabis Santal but with an added, slightly feminized “oomph.”
I might just be able to hand off that vial in my desk now. MAYBE.

A great place to test the Fresh line is Sephora — the store in Chandler Fashion Center carries the fragrances, too!
