Shoe Hot or Not: D Squared edition

I never understood people who say there’s “too much” stuff to get through – yes, I’m looking at you, former newspaper readers. (And former magazine subscribers, and …)

For one thing, “too much” has never been a problem for Americans, home of Costco and Sam’s Club and super-size meals. For another, most of the time it’s not like it’s all tossed in there willy-nilly – there’s some organization to let you pick and choose what you read/consume.

Example: Every Tuesday I’m on iTunes, poring over the new releases. But I don’t think, “Geez, there sure is a lot of music out there. Too much! I’ll just turn this off and sit quietly instead.” I don’t spend time looking at the available TV shows, movie rentals or music videos: I go straight to the Music category, then click on “new releases” and, voila! There they are. (I save my stream-of-consciousness browsing for other days.)

Today’s opening Amazon.com page has links to French pop CDs, kitchen knives and Crocs, “Sex and the City”-inspired lingerie, an iPod Touch, Nalgene bottles and “Dexter: The Complete Second Season.” And yet, millions of people shop there, thanks to those handy department categories and search guides.

Apparently online shoe retailer Zappos is branching out and reorganizing, too – the company has put its couture selections on a different subdomain, instead of having them mingle with the rabble. That’s where I found the “Flash 2” pumps by D Squared.

At first I thought the photo had been corrupted – those heels can’t be real, right? Well, they are, and I think they would be perfect for a superheroine outfit come Halloween. (“Lady Flash”? “Señorita Flasharita”? “The Conductress”?)

But other than that … well, I’ll start with the heel – 5.25 inches, although I suspect the platform sole knocks about an inch and a quarter off that. With the height of the shoe and the shape of the heel – well, it looks like something an electric cartoon stripper would wear. And it’s not like they’re classics you could wear over and over again to maximize use – everyone would be whispering, “Oh, she’s wearing the lightning bolt shoes again.” And, lastly, the price: a shocking (ba-dum-pum) $669.

But what do you think? Is that leather peep-toe pump Hot, or Not? Cast your vote in the interactive poll below by clicking your choice. (And if you’ve got a different take, feel free to create a new option.) You can vote once — but there’s no time limit. (Yes, I go back and check to see how each contender is faring, even months later.)

Plus, if you’ve got the time and opinion, leave a comment at the bottom – everyone who does so by Saturday, Aug. 9, will be entered into a drawing to win a bottle of Clinique Happy perfume spray. Good luck!

Not Hot for the Average girl.
However, if I was a Rocker Chick/Kat Von D/Super Heroine then I would say HOT. It just comes with the ensemble when you’re livin’ the lifestyle.

P.S.: I do have to say that it is a little hard for me to get past the fact that the heel also reminds me of how the old Christmas illustrations depict Reindeer legs. Go Prancer the Runway Reindeer!

  2. Beth Says:

dont like these - but they would be ok if they had a normal shaped black heel on them! instead of the funky lightning bolt. For some reason this made me think of the old JOLT soda!!

  3. Lori Says:

I think they are cute. But not $700 worth of cute. They’re very Jessica Rabbit or Dick Tracy cute.

  4. Michael Says:

I want to hate them but I sort of like them.

  5. bee Says:

Depends on who, where, and what for.. there are some events that these shoes would be good to wear for.. but probably not out of your house and not during the day.. ;-P ….and definitely not for $700

  6. Ana Says:

Maybe if I was a superhero…I could kick some butt in those, like the Matrix Goddess!!

But not to go to work or church.

P.S. Who won last week’s nail polish????

  7. Sam Mittelsteadt Says:

Nail polish contest accepts entries through Aug. 2, so I’ll pick a winner after that. … Still time to enter, if you haven’t already!

  8. BBx Says:

Cute — but great with a costume! :)

  9. Tai Says:

Michael told me I had to wear those to work tomorrow- I don’t know what he’s trying to do with me but it’s kinda creepy!!!

  10. Crazy H Says:

They would have been perfect for the superhero shoot from America’s Next Top Model. I kind of want to like them, maybe even see more people wearing them even though they are ridiculous and are most definitely found in those catalogs for strippers and are $669 for plastic.

  11. JOYE Says:

What can I say The colors are nice
Not something I would ever wear

  12. Elaine Simmons Says:

Maybe for halloween or some type of costume party

  13. Jenifer Hammond Says:

I would freakin be magnificent in these shoes, they’d make me more than 6′4″…. can you imagine?… I’d wear them with jeans! Almost so the shoes aren’t noticed until you turn to the side and Kabam! red lightening bolts, those would cause a few jaws to drop
