Great Stuff: Root beer body wash by Philosophy

Last weekend my friend Michael and I had a most excellent Sunday morning: Original cheesesteaks at Forefather’s in Tempe; shaved-ice treats at Bahama Buck’s (which really was open on Sunday, don’t heed the Web site); then a trip to the Philosophy store in Chandler. (Then we sat by the pool all afternoon.)
I ostensibly was looking for gifts for my sister’s birthday and my parents’ anniversary. But the store can’t ship your purchases – so unless you want to make a pilgrimage to the post office, you might as well buy online. And perhaps not surprisingly, I ended up spending more on myself than them.
Well, sort of: When I walked in and saw that the Old-Fashioned Lemonade body scrubs were buy-two, get-one-free, I stocked up. Not for myself, but because they make perfect “oh my God, it’s someone’s birthday tomorrow!” presents. So I have all three in my Magic Drawer, ready to pull out in the next birthday emergency.
But while I was there, my vision fell upon a label with the words “root beer.”
Barrels of Root Beer is one of the new soda-scented 3-in-1 shampoo/shower gel/bubble baths; the other scent is cherry cola, which I am less fond of. “What is this?” I demanded, cracking the lid and squeezing the sample bottle so I could huff the fragrance. “Why have I not seen this before?”
It’s a limited-edition scent – only three months! – and available only at Philosophy and Sephora stores. You can buy it in a 16-ounce bottle ($16) or as part of the Soda Fountain gift set (three 6-ounce bottles: root beer, cherry cola and fruit punch, $30).
“I don’t think I’d like to smell like this all day,” Michael said. Not to worry, the saleswoman reassured us: It’s only for the “shower experience,” and the scent doesn’t linger. (If you wanted it to, opt for the Soda Fountain lip kit, $28, with three lip glosses.)
I’m going to be giving away a bottle of the body wash – check back later this week for details.

Shoe is a combo of 50’s & 80’s. Flannel looks just too hot.
