Ever wondered what that high-fashion garment would look like in real life? For the visuals for her latest album, one of my favorite singers, Roísín Murphy, took that conceit and ran with it: For her CD covers, she and her creative director decided she’d play the role of a 24-hour pop star, decked out in extravagant designs but in the most mundane of places.

So, for example, the Viktor & Rolf contraption above — which, yes, was shown with its own lighting rigging at the fashion show — shows up on the cover for the CD single for the song “Overpowered.”

Sleevage, a website that examines album art, has more of the pieces, including the cover of the singles “Let Me Know” and “You Know Me Better,” plus the still-not-released-in-the-U.S. entire disc “Overpowered.”

Sure, the shot at top looks ludicrous, but when she’s trotting around town in a checkerboard inflatable-collar jacket, as she does in the video for the song “Overpowered,” it looks almost fun.

Meanwhile, the video for “You Know Me Better” features a great many outfits that look vintage-y … and she never even leaves the house!

This is one of my favorite looks from the “You Know Me Better” video — even though it looks like a coat, worn backwards! The whole video, with its outfit changes (and multiple personalities?) is kind of “Diary of a Mad Housewife.”
