Continuing with today’s theme of spa treatments

Several of the spa treatments that author Eileen Barish highlights in “Best Spas USA: The Guidebook to Luxury Resort, Hotel and Destination Spas” ($24.95) are offered at East Valley spas — and some sound particularly refreshing right now. A couple of her picks:

Bamboo and Ginseng Cooling Water Experience
(60 minutes, $165, at Spa Avania, Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch)
Start with a footbath of crushed organic wild thyme, pumice, aloe and peppermint and eucalyptus oils. Follow with a body scrub with ground bamboo beads infused with lavender water, ginseng and ginkgo and a Vichy shower (you relax on a bed while the water pours down on you). Finish with moisturizer, applied with the Balinese body palming massage technique. Added bonus: Through Sept. 7, spa guests who show a valid Arizona driver’s license receive 40% off massages, and 30% off a la carte salon, facial and body treatments (like this one).

Desert Rain Loofah
(30 minutes, $75, at The Spa at Camelback Inn, Paradise Valley)
A body rub with sea salt and body oil, then a scrub with a loofah and botanical body gel. After a Vichy shower, back onto the bed for a moisturizer made of prickly pear nectar, aloe vera gel and desert essential oils. Added bonus: From July 7 through the end of September, the spa’s summer promotion means if you buy one spa service, you get another at half-price. (The disclaimer: Services must be performed Monday through Thursday, and salon services aren’t included.)
