Shoe Hot or Not: Raffia edition

I really think I could have rendered my opinion based solely on the word “raffia.”
When I was browsing around for this week’s Shoe Hot or Not contender — inspired by a co-worker’s footwear today, let’s just say the search term was ” ‘Lucite heel’ sandal” — I ran across a pair of straw sandals by Stella McCartney that looked … interesting. (Click on thumbnail below to bring up the full-size photo.)
That shoe, from last year, appears to be lined with something more comfortable than straw, but it still made me wonder how long something like that would last before fly-away strands began sticking out from the sides.
But today’s shoe just makes me wonder how long it would stay sturdy at all. Raffia? RAFFIA?

I know it’s sturdy for tying earth-friendly decorative bows on things, but trotting around on heels all day? I would think this would be a disaster waiting to happen. A not-too-attractive one, either: That color combination is hurting my eyes.
What do you think? Is this shoe Hot, or Not? Cast your vote in the interactive poll below by clicking your choice. (And if you’ve got a different take, feel free to create a new option.) You can vote once — but there’s no time limit. (Yes, I go back and check to see how each contender is faring, even months later.)
Plus, if you’ve got the time and opinion, leave a comment at the bottom – everyone who does so by Saturday, July 5, will be entered into a drawing to win an Inner Grace gift kit from Philosophy, featuring a 2-ounce eau de parfum and an 8-ounce perfumed firming body emulsion.
UPDATE: Congratulations to Miachelle, whose comment was chosen as the winner.

I love them. Going back to childhood they remind me of a trivet/hotplate thing I made for my mom in kindergarden.
It was green metallic and I wove multicolored ribbon through it. She still has it.
I wonder if the shoes would last as long.

I think the raffia would stretch and take the shape of your feet. Ok if you have nicely shaped feet. They might look better if the colors were bright, like a lime green, light yellow and light orange or red, white, and blue. also, they would need a purse made of the same raffia to really make them noteworthy

I don’t know if it is an age thing or what, but I don’t like them. I don’t like the peephole toe and I don’t like the colors. It reminds me too much of the plastic lacing(someone told me it is called boondoggle) that makes the lanyards that I made during craft time at kid’s camp.

It’s funny, my thought was just like Crazy H’s. I thought of lanyards I made at camp too. I don’t think they would hold up well. I like the fun colors, but not the shoe.

The design from last year looks like something my cat threw up. This years model looks like if I was stranded on an island i could catch fish with these shoes.
