Finish Line stores help collect shoes for needy

May 29th, 2008, 12:39 pm · 1 Comment · posted by Sam Mittelsteadt

If you asked me where people were so destitute they couldn’t even afford shoes, the first places that come to mind are far away – Africa, India, maybe South America.

But not Arizona.

But during Barefoot Week (June 1-7) shoe charity Soles4Souls will donate more than 325,000 pairs of new shoes to needy people in five cities – including Flagstaff, near the Hopi and Navajo Indian reservations.Meanwhile, thousands of churches, civic groups and retailers will collect new or gently used shoes to be given away. And if you take your donated shoes to Finish Line athletic shoe stores, you’ll also get $5 off a new pair of shoes that cost $25 or more if you buy them that day. (There are some restrictions. Ask in the store.) The promotion begins June 1 and continues through July 31.
