Who would you rather have switch places with a total stranger for about a week – your child’s mother (which, for most people reading this blog would be “you”), or your hairstylist on the week you’re supposed to get your hair cut?

Because, you know, it takes a long time to grow out a really bad haircut …

The premise of “Split Ends,” which began its third season on the Style Network last month, is similar to “Wife Swap,” only with stylists: Two “opposites” switch places, try to acclimate to their new environment, get a chance to inflict their own rules and, hopefully, someone learns something along the way.In this weekend’s episode, “someone” is Julia Papworth from Salon Bossa Nova in Chandler, who trades places with Arsenio Amadis, a stylist at what the Style Network calls “high-end Red Market Salon in New York City.”

I think they’re probably trying to ramp up the drama a little bit beyond what actually happens – part of the promotional materials ask, “Will Arsenio take over Chandler with his snobby sophistication and larger-than-life attitude?” when, after all, he trained at the Carsten Institute, which may have a location in New York but began in Tempe. … And even if Julia’s only eight months out of beauty school, from the looks of the roots of that customer pictured above, not all of the clientele is incredibly demanding about their appearance … or, at least, their upkeep.

But if you’ve got DirectTV or Dish Network, check it out for yourself: The show airs 4 p.m. May 31 on the Style Network.

And the following week Terre Steed, a stylist at Joseph Scott Salon in Phoenix, ends up in Denver.
