Shoe Hot or Not: Wedge espadrille edition

DSW is one of those stores that I always forget exists. Maybe it’s because the closest one to my house is in a shopping center that also houses a Michael’s crafts, a Hallmark store and a freestanding perfume kiosk, whose cumulative effect is like a giant magnet that repels me from the area.
But its online selection of midprice shoes looks pretty great — everything from BCBG to Cole Haan, ASICS to Zoo York — even if occasionally the “savings” are negligible. (On one pair of Puma sneakers, it’s “$0.05.”)
It’s where I found this week’s contender, the Val patent leather wedge espadrille by Z by Sergio Zelcer.
Let me preface this with: I am not a fan of the espadrille. I think it looks decidedly low-rent and I imagine the rope sole gets dirty fast, so the only time I would envision giving the shoe a thumbs-up is if you told me you got a cheap pair to trot around the beaches of, say, Ibiza or South Beach. But these are $129.95 (”compare at $160″), so there goes that.

Plus: They look even worse in metallic gold.
So, what do you think? Is this shoe hot, or not? Cast your vote in the poll below — click on the response that matches your opinion, or create your own option.
(Plus: if you’re so inspired, leave a comment below. On Friday, May 23, I’ll draw one person’s comment at random to win a bottle of Gratitude bath gelee by Philosophy.)

Well call me Low-Rent baby (which I know you already do behind my back Sammit, although you are getting more brazen)…because Espadrilles will always have a fond place in my heart. I got my first pair in High School because my mother shopped from the Spiegel Catalog. Viva la Spiegel! Whoo-Hoo! My Espadrilles were a low-wedge Linen version with a satin ankle tie ~ loved them! They were perfect with a sundress! I like the top Patent Leather pair..the Gold pair look bland.

WHY THE WEDGE? I hate them. I know that they are good for beach, park and other things where a high heel would go through the ground, but I don’t care. There have only been maybe two wedge types that I like and this isn’t one of them.

I think these are nice for summer and would wear them. However, I think they would look better in a lighter color. They definitely are a seasonal shoe.

The black are doable the gold is another story. The gold says to me, I am cheap if you would like to rent me for the night.
