ANTM 10.9: Ciao, bella … well, Lauren.

April 23rd, 2008, 8:57 pm by Sam Mittelsteadt

Opening credits, and this, like every week, I’m struck by how much better Anya looked before La Tyra decided to superbleach her hair into flax.

And they’re already in Rome! We’ve been denied the annual Little Bouncing Jet footage? Whitney informs us that “Rome is a huge fashion capital,“ which leads me to believe she might be confusing it with Milan, since that’s a bit like saying that Phoenix is a huge fashion capital. Her and Anya’s interviews make me suspect the girls got touch-ups before they got on the plane, since they’re looking particularly blonde.

Martin + Osa plans Scottsdale store in 2009

April 23rd, 2008, 3:59 pm by Sam Mittelsteadt

It looks like I’ve got a few trips back to Mystery City if I’m going to stock up on anything from Martin + Osa anytime soon: The manager at the store at — fine, alright, Cherry Creek shopping center in Denver!* — called me back today to say that she talked to her divisional manager and that plans for the Chandler store had fallen through. But a store in Scottsdale is on the books for 2009.

Martin + Osa to open in … East Valley? Soon?

April 22nd, 2008, 3:53 pm by Sam Mittelsteadt

I spent this weekend in … a city that will remain unnamed because it will get me in trouble with certain relatives I didn’t visit while I was there, and I stopped into Martin + Osa, a store by American Eagle Outfitters, only for adults. (Sort of like Abercrombie & Fitch has Ruehl 925.)

The good news: I found a navy cardigan to wear at work when the AC vent I sit under kicks on. The better news: The staff mentioned they’re opening a store in Scottsdale soon — as in, “a few months.” It would be the first in the market.

So my first instinct was to call the folks at Scottsdale Fashion Square, where the property manager said she couldn’t confirm or deny anything, because they “haven’t seen a lease come through.”

Which, in industry terms, usually means: “Sure, a store’s coming in, but we can’t comment on it because the ink’s not dry on the contract.” Sometimes stores don’t sign the lease until the day the store opens, to allow it wiggle room.

So I called the store I went to in Mystery City, where the manager said she heard the store would be in Chandler — “Is that anywhere near you? Is there even a place called that?” — but it wasn’t scheduled for this calendar year. Tomorrow the West Coast divisional manager will be in the store, so hopefully I’ll have an update then.

(And I love my cardigan. I’m wearing it now, as you can see below.)

ANTM 10.8: Roman fever

April 16th, 2008, 9:09 pm by Sam Mittelsteadt

Previously: There were go-sees, and Claire went home. Were it not for her behavior the week before that, I would be more devastated.

Speaking of, here’s one of the first sound bites of the night: “If I ever went home, I would be devastated,” says … Stacy Ann. My dear, welcome to devastation.
