Kohler Academy goes ‘Around the World’ for beauty event

April 30th, 2008, 3:22 pm · Post a Comment · posted by Sam Mittelsteadt

Students at Jill Kohler’s crazy-great hair and aesthetician school, the Kohler Academy in Scottsdale, will host a show of hair and makeup trends from around the globe at a benefit event May 7.

I’ve been to the Kohler Academy to enjoy everything from a facial to a pedicure — the rates are reasonable and there’s no tipping allowed (what tips do get pushed on the students are donated to a local children’s hospital) — and every time I’ve been impressed not only by its size and shiny-newness, but also its professional atmosphere.

But back to the event, which runs 6:30 to 8 p.m.: The school will be separated into zones, with models that represent a different global destination, from Rio de Janeiro to Paris and Bali. All hair, styling and makeup will be performed by Kohler Academy students. (Guests can gnosh on thematically related desserts and nonalcoholic beverages like iced tea and lemonade, too.)

Tickets are $15 and are available at the front desk of the academy, 13402 N. Scottsdale Road (north of Thunderbird Road), Scottsdale. They’ll be collected at the door for a drawing in which 10 guests will each win $100 service cards. Proceeds from the event will also go to the children’s hospital mentioned above. Information: (480) 222-9540.
