Donated dresses earn “Wedding Singer” ticket discounts

March 27th, 2008, 4:28 pm · Post a Comment · posted by Sam Mittelsteadt

I don’t think ASU Gammage knew what it was in for when it offered to give two free tickets to the musical stage production of “The Wedding Singer” to the first 100 people who brought a gently used bridesmaid, prom or even wedding dress to the box office. The dresses were donated to The Cinderella Affair, a volunteer project that provides prom dresses to low-income high schoolers.

“We were overwhelmed, in a good way,” publicist Dana McGuinness said.

More than 300 dresses have been donated in the past week, and the collection continues through May 25. The free tickets have been given away, but anyone who brings in a dress now will receive a discount on their ticket — the price will be $19.85. And for the sake of those girls — for god’s sake, make sure the dress you bring in is something they might actually want to wear to prom, not something you’re inflicting upon them out of sadistic glee over getting cheap tickets!

The play runs May 20-25 at Gammage.
