Poll: What, if anything, goes with pink pants?

So, last year I was browsing on Yoox and found a pair of pants that were supersale — like $25 from $400 or something. And, sure, they were pink, but the photo made them look fun in like an spring/Easter/bleached-pastel/polo grounds sort of way.

As you can see from the photo above, they are definitely more … vibrant than expected.

And so every day when I got dressed, I looked at them and thought, “At least you don’t have to worry about them until next spring.”

pinkblack.jpgGuess what? It’s spring. And I spent part of last night trying to figure out what exactly would look good with them.

The web site originally paired them with a black shirt and black shoes, which I thought looked rather severe and Euro (meant in the most disparaging way). But just in case, here’s what the combo looked like (for a better look, click on each thumbnail to bring up the photo in a separate, full-size window). As I kept pairing the pants with other contenders, I kept having to admit that maybe this was the only actual combination worth wearing.

But I soldiered on. …

pinkgreen.jpg pinkolive.jpg pinkgray.jpg pinkstripe.jpg

If you look at the lightest-colored striping in the glen plaid, you can see that it’s actually a vivid green … much like the Lacoste polo at far left. But for you to actually see it, you have to be right up, eyes on my pantalones, and I’m really the sort of guy who prefers people at arm’s length, thank you very much. And at first glance, this combination looks sort of Blind Golfer to me.

So what about something maybe a little darker — like an olive green, instead? Because that’s the other stripe in the plaid. But again, you can’t really see it until you’re up close and personal, so the color choice needs to be based on what it looks like from a distance (not to quote Bette Midler or anything). And this, while less Easter egg-ish, still doesn’t look quite … right.

So, I thought, if black is too severe, how about a smoother charcoal gray? But rather than the charcoal soothing and toning down the vivid pink, it’s almost like the pink is overwhelming and overpowering the not-quite-black of the gray.

And eventually, I was like, “You know what? Let’s go for something that has everything neutral. Light gray? In there. Dark gray? Yep, stripes. White? Oh, yes.” Because sometimes it takes something strong to hold its own against such a bright color and pattern. I just don’t know if this is the right something strong.

So, to introduce the poll onto my blog, here’s your chance to vote: What’s the best partner for these pink pants? Click and vote below. Easy! (And if you want to leave a comment, you can do that, too.)

What's the best match for those pants?

  1. Crazy H Says:

The black and dark olive look the best, but in order to really decide I need to see what YOU look like in them. I can imagine, but then I just focus way too much on the pants.

  2. Heather Says:

I like the black shirt and the striped gray shirt the best

  3. Tammy Says:

I think you should 1. BURN THOSE PANTS or 2. Contact Clinton from what NOT to wear and ask his opinion…but remember…he sometimes looks like he just jumped out of an easter egg!! Love ya!!

  4. Summer Fashion Fun Says:

All I can say is those pants are garish and I would toss them rathter than try and match them to anything.
