Sephora plans to open mini-versions of its beauty emporiums inside JC Penney stores in Tempe and Casa Grande next month.

The 1,500-square-foot “Sephora inside JCPenney” areas will be in the center of the store, but still have the Sephora “open-sell” touch-and-test-everything layout and look. They’ll stock about 50 beauty brands, from Stila and Smashbox to Valley-based skin-care company Philosophy … plus Sephora’s own line of products, makeup to skincare to brushes.
They’ll open Feb. 8 at the JC Penney stores at Tempe Marketplace and Casa Grande Regional Shopping Center.

(How big are the stores? In comparison, the Sephora atChandler Fashion Center is 4,100 square feet and stocks 200+ brands.)
It’s a pretty smooth move: Earlier this week I realized I was — gasp! — out of Hope in a Jar and thought how I really didn’t feel like driving to Scottsdale or Chandler to pick some up. But Tempe Marketplace is right on my way to the office! I’m sensing a few days when I show up late to work for a last-minute pick-me-up.
