A-muze-ing shirts for men and women alike: Bill Deacon, one of the founders of Muze Lounge in Scottsdale, says he had always wanted to expand the brand into clothing — especially T-shirts — but couldn’t find the right graphic designer. It turns he out he was complaining to the right person; the college friend he was golfing with had a relative who had worked for both Von Dutch and Christian Audigier. (Note: I hate-hate-HATE Von Dutch — I don’t consider it coincidence its initials are VD — and am equally not a fan of Ed Hardy or Christian Audigier. But these Muze Lounge shirts are cool. I think it’s because they’re less ostentatious, less annoying and less “trying really hard to be an L.A. chick.”)
Muze Clothing T-shirt designs take their inspiration from movie quotes and add a little sass and bite. Imagine “Say hello to my lil’ friend” in “Godfather”-style script — yes, the quote is from “Scarface,” but that movie’s typeface isn’t as recognizable — scrawled across a maternity shirt. Or “You’ll get nothing and like it” on a women’s T-shirt. These are part of the 2007 line, but the 2008s will be introduced in just a few weeks. (Want to win a women’s size S shirt? Click here to be taken to the post that has all the info.)
Prices range from $39 to $69, depending on the design and treatment. They’re available at Muze Lounge, 15680 N. Pima Road, Scottsdale. Hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. By the end of January the store section of muzelounge.com will be up and running, too.
“We’ll always feature movie quotes,” Deacon says, but because the nine muses represented everything from poetry to
song, expect future designs to move into song lyrics and other “moments of impact” within the arts.
Lalique bottles up beautiful new woody scent: The glass and wenge wood bottle for Lalique’s new Encre Noire is heavy and dark, so it’s no surprise to learn the men’s fragrance was inspired by an inkwell. But the scent itself is not inky and dark — in fact, it’s surprisingly light for something so woody. Up close, you’ll even get a whiff of something chilly, almost like arctic mint. But the true notes of the fragrance are squarely in the fresh wood category — think cypress, vetivers, cashmere wood (and musk). A hefty bottle of eau de toilette spray is $100 and shower gel is $35 — and for you big spenders, a crystal flacon eau de parfum is $750. The fragrance is available locally exclusively at Neiman Marcus, Scottsdale Fashion Square.
