At least this week, the media glare’s off Britney Spears: Her 16-year-old sister Jamie Lynn has announced she’s pregnant. (Surprise: Mother Lynne’s upcoming parenting book has been delayed.) From Zooey 101 to Parenting 101, overnight!
My favorite part of Jamie Lynn’s statement is that she’s known the father, her boyfriend Cody, “since high school.” Uh, you’re 16: You became high-school age maybe a year and a half ago.
Tangentially, this week I saw “Juno,” the “wisecracking pregnant teenage girl” movie. Bittersweet ending, of course, but it shows that not all pregnant teens end up on meth and destitute. Of course, it also shows a teen with the knowledge base of a 30-year-old and the dialogue of a 1940s gum-cracking dame, but … anyway, hopefully, Jamie Lynn veers more toward Juno than Britney.
