Shoe Hot or Not: Loeffler Randall edition

You might remember I had a brief falling-out with Target, but a weekend trip to [a city that can't be named, lest certain relatives find out I visited and didn't call them] helped put them back on track with me. Because while I was helping my friends pick up auto-related winter necessities for their car, I remembered to search for those camouflage-print long johns — and snagged the last pair on the rack. (I’m still out of luck with the shaving cream, though.)
So it was good timing that Target is readying its latest limited-edition accessories collection, which was designed by Loeffler Randall and hits stores Dec. 30.
The LR ready-to-wear collection for fall-winter includes 13 styles of flats, so this peep-toe style in rose gold or metallic linen is in sync with the line’s other offerings — at a significantly lower price ($29.99). Target will also sell two other types of flats, and four styles of matching handbags, as part of its collection.
I’m not a big fan of flats with gathering or ruffles or details at the toe — a simple pilgrim-style bow might be as far as I’d go — so these feel a little old to me. And that’s a perilous slope.
Today one of my co-workers was talking about photographing her dogs with reindeer antlers or Santa hats and pointed out she was doing it an ironic way. But the danger is, how will you make sure people know you’re doing it in an ironic way?
Similarly, a shoe like this feels a little wink-wink. What if nobody sees you winking? What if they just think you’re wearing grandma shoes?
Am I wrong? Let’s rename this week’s session from “Hot or Not” to “Cute or Not,” to minimize the carnage, but still: Would you wear these shoes?
Leave your comments below by Friday, Dec. 21. Everyone who does will be eligible to win two new tubes of Full Potential Lips Plump and Shine gloss by Clinique, which like the name suggests is a lip plumper and gloss. Preview the shades, Camisole and Rose Bloom, here.
UPDATE: Congratulations to Kim Welker, whose name was drawn to win the lip glosses. Look for a new contest … well, one’s going on right now!

NOT HOT OR CUTE!!! YUCK!! The yellow one look like a big fat slab of butter! I wouldn’t pay $1.00 for these shoes! These are even worse than any pair of Grandma shoes I have seen.

I don’t like it, but a lot of teeny boppers doing the retro-like look might like it. I have seen girls wear shoes like these and matching bag and look cute…so it all depends on the person wearing them.

I think the ruffle makes the shoes look VERY grandma-ish. I’m not so sure about the color either. It seems like their trying to make them more modern by making them a more outrageous color, but it doesnt seem to help. The material looks cheap also. I do love when stores offer a large range of flats since im very tall, but so many of them tend to look very grandma-ish. Its a shame.

I have to say, I’m a shoe diva, and these flats are awful. I would be curious to see the heel…but I don’t think I’ll make a special trip to Target to see them.

Ok, I love shoes, but come on, these look like something my Grandma wore back in the 70’s. These are a NOT!!!!
