Tonight one of the contestants – Bianca, naturally – expresses frustration with the phenomenon that in the judges’ eyes, Heather can do no wrong, which as anyone who watched her slide down a wall tonight realizes, represents some pretty skewed perception.
Further proof: SARAH gets voted off … because she wasn’t as fat as the judges thought she was. We’ve come a long way in the modeling industry – but not if you’re a size 10! You’re a 2 or a 22, dammit! (Or, as Jenna said on “30 Rock” recently, “If I can’t be Mo’Nique fat, I’ve got to be Lohan thin.”) Maybe that’s because those are the extremes Tyra keeps see-sawing between.

A new kind of Gucci bag: Scottsdale Fashion Week ends Nov. 4, but hot on its heels is Phoenix Fashion Week, which has scheduled events Nov. 5 -8 , including fashion shows at 7 o’clock nightly. (A link to the schedule is here.) As part of Wednesday’s event, Debbie Frank will incorporate her furniture designs into the runway show, along with handbags like this leather one ($750) by Gemma Gucci. (Those brown squares you see? That’s fur, still attached to the original pelt.) Gemma is a fourth-generation member of the Gucci family, but her handbag line is not affiliated with the brand now run by LVMH. After the show, head to D. Frank Designs, 4419 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, to admire it up close.
Nordstrom will be the exclusive launch store for the latest fundraiser T-shirt ($40) from Edun (the clothing line by Rogan Gregory and Bono) and the One Campaign, which combats poverty and disease worldwide. This year’s shirt is made in Lesotho from African cotton; and $10 from every purchase will go to an organization that aims to provide anti-retroviral medication to the estimated 15,000 factory workers, mostly women, infected with HIV in Lesotho. Plus, Nordstrom will match each $10 donation, up to $100,000. (That’s actor Josh Hartnett wearing the shirt at right.) The department store has locations at Chandler Fashion Center and Scottsdale Fashion Square.
The Sonoran Desert weather trade-off: Lower temperatures are concomitant with drier air. Celebrity manicurist (and former Valley resident) Deborah Lippmann created Rich Girl hand cream ($24), which has SPF 25, a lightening complex to fade sun and age spots, and moisturizing ingredients like shea butter and avocado and jojoba oil. The Lippmann Collection is sold at Bath & Body Works at Chandler Fashion Center, and Essentials + More at Hilton Village in Scottsdale.

Have you ever been in a relationship where instead of just breaking up with someone, you start doing things that annoy them in hopes they’ll dump you instead? Lately, I feel like Target is trying to do that to me.
Back in July — July! — their PR company sent out their menswear fall 2007 press kit, featuring all the trends and themes they’d be promoting this season, from David Bowie-inspired tuxedo jackets to argyle V-neck sweaters. And out of the whole press kit, I found one item that inexplicably made me giddy.

OK, this week’s Shoe Hot or Not basically assumes you have money to burn. A lot of money — like, Gucci quantities of money. And not “these are expensive but I can get a lot of mileage out of these classic pumps” sort of way, either: These shoes have pom-poms. (Or as the Gucci website refers to them, “tassels.”) That are made out of mink. These are, to put it kindly, memorable shoes. People will say, “Oh, you’re wearing the furry shoes again.”

For me, the dealbreaker would be that you have to tie the bow yourself, and as many a wrapped holiday gift can attest, I am not an expert at the attractive bow. (To camouflage this, I just keep adding ribbon until it’s a bounty of bow, and thus overwhelms any ability to see the original one.)
So: You’ve got $600 to burn. Are these shoes the ones to do it on?
Leave your comments below by noon Friday, Nov. 9. I’ll choose one person at random to receive some spoils from my Big Box of Goodies — in this case, the new(ish) Good For You lip treatment balm by Go Smile (the company behind those brilliant single-dose teeth whitening ampoules.)
