On week two I’m paying a little closer attention to the opening credits, and when Jillian gets her close-up – “That’s me!” – she takes a weird curtsey/bow, and I’m reminded of Amy Poehler’s “Saturday Night Live” character Amber, because she’s rockin’ one leg, y’all. … Jealous much? And this is all I’ll mention of Jillian all week
The boy designers miss Simone; meanwhile, Elisa says she’s looking forward to “taking what the judges had said and incorporating that into my own process of creation.” Man, she’s gonna bug, isn’t she?

Back at the house, there’s lots of jumping up and down and screaming about the trip to China. The girls begin to pack, but Lisa’s appearance in the bottom two has her all so depressed and distracted, she can’t even effectively put garments into a suitcase. She interviews: “I’ve been strong for so long … but the harder I try, the harder I fall.” If she doesn’t make it as a model – spoiler alert: she doesn’t – she’s got the potential to be America’s Next Top Lyricist for Diane Warren.

So, my friend and co-worker Amy, who hates pretty much every shoe I put up for discussion on this site, sent me an e-mail that consisted only of the subject line — “HOT!” — and a link, which took me to these shoes.

I’m not sure if she was messing with my head or not.

Book chronicles Tiffany gems: Ever wanted to rifle through the jewelry of the rich and famous? Get ready for some vicarious pleasure. “Tiffany Colored Gems” (Abrams, $50), the newest book by Tiffany & Co.’s design director John Loring, chronicles the company’s collection of historic treasures — everything from one-third of the French crown jewels in 1887 to architect Frank Gehry’s first collection for the store in 2006. (Biographical tidbit: Loring grew up in Cave Creek; his childhood home is now Rancho Mañana Golf Resort.) The 275 full-color photos illustrate every era in the jeweler’s 170-year history. The book is sold at the Tiffany store at Scottsdale Fashion Square.
Pangea Organics at Cost Plus: Last weekend began my run of tasks designed to get the house in order for Thanksgiving. I racked up a triple-digit bill at Cost Plus World Market getting 20 wine glasses (and the beverages to fill them) … and as I rolled the cart up to the counter, I had to confront shelves of Pangea Organics personal care products. (It’s like the store knew I was weak!) I spent the next five minutes standing there huffing all the soaps, from Malagasy Cinnamon Cassia With Cloves to Pyrenees Lavender With Cardamom, before settling on Canadian Pine With White Sage liquid hand soap ($14) for the kitchen sink and bar soap ($8) for the shower. (Plus: plant the soap’s cardboard container in soil and you’ll be rewarded with herbs or flowers — seeds are embedded in the biodegradable box.) My next must-try: the massage and body oil ($25) in Italian White Sage and Geranium. My holidays will be well-scented!
A (well-priced) haircut in Scottsdale: My brother was in town last weekend for NASCAR, and while he was in downtown Scottsdale he decided he needed a haircut and called for a recommendation. “Between Scottsdale and Goldwater you can’t walk half a block without running into a salon,” I told him. “But it’s probably going to be pricey.” He proved me wrong by finding Salon Z, 7031 E. Fifth Ave., where he got a great cut for $28 — including shampoo and style. That’s not Cost Cutters-level cheap, but it’s still pretty good for the area (cuts at the salon across the street start at $70).

Rather than have the designers dismantle their own clothing, or their apartment, or produce, this season’s first challenge seems to be an easy one: Out of the $50,000 worth of fabric over in those tents, make something that represents you as a designer.

A couple of the “ANTM” discussion boards have a theory: First girl featured on the episode, latest girl canned. Which bodes badly for Lisa, who’s getting in a little “mirror time” to find her best angles. She was called first last week, you might recall, but she knows the erratic affections that is the judging panel: “When you start thinking you’re doing good … they don’t like it.” Truer words were never spoken: One week Tyra’s chastising them for walking in all defeated, the next she’s raring to take them down a peg. Or twenty.

It should come as no surprise that I love pop music — probably more so than any other genre. So I’m downright giddy about the impending release of Kylie Minogue’s new album “X” (which is, appropriately, her 10th, if you’re counting). Here’s the video for the first single, which was released in the U.K. on Tuesday.

And, of course, the first thing I noticed about her — yes, really, even before the hair, which looks awesome but you don’t really get a good look until she’s fully lighted — was the red soles of her Louboutins.
