Shoe Hot or Not: Oxford Mary Jane edition

So, my friend and co-worker Amy, who hates pretty much every shoe I put up for discussion on this site, sent me an e-mail that consisted only of the subject line — “HOT!” — and a link, which took me to these shoes.

I’m not sure if she was messing with my head or not.
On one hand, from the right angle, they do look kind of cute, even if their description makes them sound like some sort of horrific “Island of Dr. Moreau” experiment : an Oxford-inspired bootie with a Mary Jane strap.
But all my goodwill goes out the window when I see these shoes, by Poetic Licence, from a slightly different angle.
Because that not-quite-wedge sole suddenly plops them into “granny bootie” territory, which means that all sorts of ill-advised women will start wearing them to weddings with below-the-knee prairie skirts and bad perms. The only way I could recommend wearing these is if they were paired with a ’40s-era short-sleeved blouse and really severe Dita Von Tease-style pencil skirt, in some sort of homage to pinup girls.
What do you think? Leave your comments below and be entered for a chance to win a 1.7-ounce spray bottle of the new(ish) Nina eau de toilette by Nina Ricci. I’ll draw one winner at random from the comments received by Monday, Nov. 26. And look for a new shoe every Tuesday!
Update: Congratulations to first poster Amy D., whose name was chosen to receive the eau de toilette.

My first thought was “Little House on the Prairie” which can never be good. And then I started singing “Mary Had a Little Lamb” and wanted to scratch my eyes out.

They’d be cuter if it was a normal high heel, not a strange wannabe-wedge type of thing.

I keep wanting to comment on this shoe, but I haven’t yet decided what I actually think. I look at it and it has flare and then I look at it and it is so ugly. I guess I like the colors, but the shape seems off. I don’t know…the shoe is just weird.

Maybe this is why I should stick to flip flops and tennis shoes … I have no taste.
