For some reason, I’m not really feeling the Halloween spirit. Usually I’ve got a costume planned by now, tickets bought to the show at BS West in Scottsdale, but this year I’m just not in the mood. Just in case I have a last-minute change of heart, it’s good to know the makeup artists at MAC have come up with Halloween looks — complete with product lists! — that I can print out and attempt to duplicate at home (or, instead of having to buy everything, I can make an appointment at a nearby MAC counter and for a fee, they’ll do it for me). MAC employees from across the globe came up with everything from the green-tinted Absinthe Minded to special-effects Unzipped and robotic Machineman. (Now, if only they’d work on my costume, too.) For a direct link to all the looks, click here.
A show with sole: The first few days of November will be filled with fashion — Scottsdale Fashion Week runs Thursday through Nov. 4 in downtown Scottsdale, and Phoenix Fashion Week follows on its heels Nov. 5-8. One of the more interesting events of Scottsdale Fashion Week should be the Wearable Artwalk Festival, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Marshall Way and Main Street: Models will show more than 50 pieces of “wearable art” from couture designs to jewelry. Italian shoe company Apepazza will hand out gerbera daisies (with discounts for purchases on the shoe company’s Web site) to women who visit Bonner David Gallery, 7040 E. Main St., and take a peek at their new Coccinella metallic flats. Can’t make it to the show? Nordstrom at Scottsdale Fashion Square carries other styles by Apepazza, including the Ghepardo boots ($250) at left.
Win free hair products: The V05 line has introduced a whole slew of new Extreme Style products ($3.49), from a Heat Defense conditioning spray to Curvacious Curls mousse. Check them out — and the new virtual styling salon at their web site. But I’ve got pairs of Ultimate Hold “power gel” and Reworkable putty (despite its name, more like a syrupy paste) to give away to Tribune readers. To enter, click on this link to shoot me an e-mail message that includes your name and mailing address, and use the words EXTREME V05 as the subject line. I’ll draw five winners from the entries received by noon Friday, Nov. 2. Good luck!

Tonight’s episode of “America’s Next Top Model” begins with Ebony deciding that she’s going to try to “come off like a nice person,” while Ambreal asks her father to pray for her.
Her poppa must pray real hard, because when they end up in the bottom two, Ebony elects to fall on her sword rather than send Ambreal, who clearly wants it more, home. Nothing angers the great and terrible Tyra more than model minions thinking for themselves, and rather than graciously accepting Ebony’s decision, she instead chastises the girl, saying that to her “the most unattractive thing in the world is a quitter.” Apparently she hasn’t looked to her right and seen J. Alexander’s comically large afro. Or Heather’s straight-on shot.
Team Ebony!

In case you don’t feel comfortable asking me for spa advice — although I’d like to point out I wrote the Phoenix-area blurbs for Allure magazine for a year about everything from highlights to spa treatments, so come on! — another reference point for all things pamper is Lisa Kalanicki’s site Arizona Spa Girls, which is throwing itself a five-year anniversary party 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at Taylor’s Restaurant at the Scottsdale Airpark, 15000 N. Airport Drive. The sponsors include Mineralogie, Eminence and Wicked Bakery, so expect demonstrations, treats and — dare we hope for goodie bags?

Scottsdale plus-size boutique Diva will host its second annual fall luncheon and fashion show beginning 11:30 a.m. Oct. 27 at Veneto Trattoria, the Italian restaurant that’s also in Hilton Village shopping center, 6137 N. Scottsdale Road.
The $25 admission includes lunch and a $15 coupon for use at Diva, which sells clothing in sizes 14-24. There will also be door prizes and a drawing for $200 worth of clothing. Proceeds go to the no-kill shelter Animals Benefit Club of Arizona … which explains why Mackie’s Parlour, another store in the shopping center, will have matching fashions for dogs on the runway.
To make reservations, call (480) 948-8777.

It took a month from beginning to end, but I’ve finally selected the readers to receive fragrances included in my last few Great Stuff columns.
So congratulate — or envy — Valerie Gardner of Mesa, Miachelle DePiano of Gilbert; Lisa Krpata of Queen Creek; Kim Welker of Mesa; Heather Leppert of Torrance, Calif.; Sandra Koenig of Apache Junction; and Mike Lasch of Mesa. Their various scents are winging their way to them right now.
Now that things seem to be up and running, look for plenty of other chances to win free schwag here. Think I’m joking? Every Thursday I post a “Shoe Hot or Not?” inviting readers to comment, and select one winner each week.

SPEAK WITHOUT TALKING: Ah, the passive-aggressive note: the classic form of communication for those too afraid (or too exhausted) to confront others about annoyances. (This web site chronicles the best — or, at least, the submitted.) Now parents can use their tots as walking, not-quite-talking passive-aggressive billboards. Gabby Baby tees and onesies ($22-$29) remind onlookers things like “Please don’t give my parents unsolicited advice” — are you listening, Grandma? — or “Please don’t touch my hands, I put them in my mouth.” No doubt the thinking is, Who could be upset about the message when it’s delivered by such an adorable little tyke? I can’t wait for ones that say “Please keep your noise down. SOME of us are trying to sleep!” Find them at gabbybaby.com.
HOLD TO YOUR PRINCIPLES: It must be hard having morals. Me? If a product used baby seal wax but made me look five years younger, you know it would occupy my bathroom shelf — right next to something with steam-extracted rose oil, which has as its selling point that it takes 60,000 roses to produce just 1 ounce. For me, little is off-limits. My friend Christina, on the other hand, loves the slow food movement and tries to adhere to vegan principles. So she was perfect to test King of the Mods ($15.95), a vegan styling gel by Lush with almond and camellia oil, with grapefruit and lime for scent. She said it smelled “delightful,” like Key lime Yoplait … and it also had a similar texture, which made her think it wouldn’t hold well. But it held her soft curls all day — and her worries about getting “crunchy” gel hair also proved unfounded, too. (She did need to add a shine serum afterward.) It’s at Lush, Scottsdale Fashion Square.
