Alice Temperley at Target: Je n’aime pas

September 20th, 2007, 5:41 pm · 2 Comments · posted by Sam Mittelsteadt

Target says its latest GO International designer, Alice Temperley, "brings a British mod flare (cq)," but I’m not feeling it. Especially the way they’re presented here: These are the girls who came back from a summer in Europe full of pretention, deliberately pronouncing things the way they do "on the continent" and claiming they were doing so unconsciously. They would read you poetry and act as if they were the first people on Earth to really get it, you know? "I’m really into Yeats right now. Have you heard of him?" (I’m pretty sure the beret doesn’t help.)Out of the 20 presented looks, there was only one that I didn’t actively dislike. It’s after the jump. The potentially offending elements are there, but restrained. The wide-leg crepe pants ($39.99) are pretty awesome and I don’t even mind the cropped military jacket (also $39.99).That beret has got to go, though. Think how much cuter that would look with a sleek high ponytail.

Jackie and I love the looks from across the pond.
We even put down our Yeats books to look at them.
