Shoe Hot or Not: Prada Fall ‘07 edition

August 30th, 2007, 12:15 pm · 8 Comments · posted by Sam Mittelsteadt

Prada often has the ability to make the unattractive seem appealing. I remember when "librarian chic" trotted down the runways with prim gray skirts and big clunky stacked heels — and people went nuts for it. It’s definitely a label for someone who prefers "interesting" to strictly "beautiful."That said, I think these shoes are both interesting and beautiful. Well, some of them, anyway. It’s interesting to watch the shape of the shoe change according to sandal or pump — the ankle strap looks so much bigger on the sandal that it’s almost ungainly. And why do I not mind the watermelon suede on the heel, but get irritated by the gold on the ankle? (In case you haven’t figured it out, I have them in order of appeal to me.)The Prada web site lists no prices, but the Mary Jane cut of the same style in classic leather — like the top shoe — is $550 at Neiman Marcus (my barometer of all things luxury.)Are these shoes hot, or not? Leave your opinion in the comments section below. One poster each week receives a free product from my goodie drawer. This week’s prize: Scented body sprays from Victoria’s Secret Beauty. I’ll pick a winner on Tuesday, Sept. 4.Updated: Congratulations to Deena, who’s getting her scents mailed to her this week! Look for new shoes — and giveaways — every Thursday.

I actually think they’re hot, but i agree that they pumps are more balanced-looking than the sandals.

  2. TK Says:

Yuck - I just threw up a little in my mouth.

  3. Francesca Says:

I actually like where you say this “unattractive shoe seems appealling”. Quite honestly regardless of whether these shoes were Prada or not…I really dig them! I love the transitional color pallette of the top shoe and the open toe of the Black/Tan shoe. I probably could not stand in these for more than 5 minutes without getting a leg cramp but it would be worth a try ;-)

  4. Tammy Says:

    OMG!!!!

  5. cathy Says:

I like the color combinations but that’s about it. I think they are strictly for show–not wearing

  6. Deena Says:

Whoa, that’s one ugly shoe! What in the world are they thinking? My back hurts just looking at them.

  7. Greg Says:

I like it. One’s body would need to be proportionate to wear it….but I do like it.

  8. Crazy H Says:

I am torn…I think I would like it better as an art piece.
