Shoe Hot or Not: The Thin Edition

August 2nd, 2007, 9:06 pm · 7 Comments · posted by Sam Mittelsteadt

The title’s a little deceptive, yes — I’m not talking about the size of the post, but rather this Donald J Pliner "Cisso2" sandal, which is sold in narrow widths (the size is followed by N) as well as regular ones (the size is followed by M).I’m wondering if this shoe is deceptively simple, as well. Look at it from above: Not quite interesting enough to qualify as a gladiator-style sandal. Doesn’t it just sort of look like a T-strap Teva with an inch-and-a-half wedge heel? Why, when I look at the top photo, do I think these would be slippery should your feet be, ahem, less than powder-dry? Another factor to consider: There’s a lot of foot flesh exposed here, so anyone who wandered out wearing these would need to make sure her feet were in pedicure-perfect condition.Am I overthinking this? Have I been brainwashed by shooties and booties and stilettos for so long I can’t appreciate a simple sandal? Leave your comments below — I’ll pick one person to receive an item out of my Magical Product Drawer!By the way, these sandals are on sale(!) at Nordstrom through Aug. 6 — $129.90 instead of the regular $215.

I like them. Not too girly or high-heeled. But, for the record, there need to be more cute WIDE-width shoes out there that don’t look cloddish or granny-ish. Who cares about narrow?

  2. Amy S Says:

    It’s a nice sandal … for JESUS.

  3. Chelsea Says:

I like that it’s simple, but they’d be day-after-pedi shoes…and who the hell needs narrow shoes? Seriously?

  4. Greg Says:

Nope. Boring. Looks like shoes I’d see on the feet of people I returned to work with this week-and I’ve never been overly impressed with their fashion sense.

  5. sharyn Says:

Well, they’re fine, but they’re not $129.90 worth of fine, and certainly not $215 worth of fine. Just sorta … OK.

  6. Suzanne Says:

I am a great believer that SIMPLE is always BETTER! Plus the name Donald J. Pliner speaks for itself.

  7. Dena Says:

These look like they belong on a Seniors-only cruise…. just pair ‘em with some floral shorts and an applique sweatshirt and you’re set!
