The bad news: There’ll be no more Great Stuff columns in your Sunday Tribune. The good news: That’s because they’re moving to Saturdays, along with a new feature that gives you a peek inside a different East Valley store each week. Licking your lips with anticipation? Well, don’t — it’s bad for them. Instead, try one of these new lip treatments and colors.(And after the jump: A reader giveaway!) Clinique Superbalm tinted lip treatment has gone glossy! Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss ($13.50), which hit counters Aug. 1, still moisturizes with lipids, linoleic acid, vitamin E and aloe vera extract, but adds more sheen. My tester says she loves the color (hers was ApricotGinger) and it’s "just as hydrating" as her lip balm … but it’s not as glossy as she likes a lip gloss to be. (It’s not quite "poppin’," to use Lil Mama’s phrase.) "I feel like if I was somewhere other than (at work), I’d want to put something clear and shiny over it," she concludes. The Rushmetal collection by MAC includes four limited-edition lipsticks ($14) that each have a metallic shimmer — but nothing so overwhelming they couldn’t be worn during the day. My favorite is Fast Lane, a luster-finish mauve with a silver pearlized effect; the others have a decidedly more golden/copper bent. And did you know if you return six empty MAC lipstick tubes — no sample sizes or boxes! — to the company, you’ll get a free lipstick? Click here for the info.An article in my new issue of Reader’s Digest — hey, it’s a gift from my parents! Leave me alone! — has a rundown of which cosmetics you really should buy in department stores. (Answer: Eye shadow, foundation.) But drugstore lipsticks and glosses usually get the thumbs-up, which makes it even easier to pick up a new New York Color lip gloss ($2.99), sold in chain drugstores and mass merchandisers like Target and CVS. (The fall collection is inspired by our Southwest colors, so this berry tint is named Red Rock Canyon.)And now for the reader giveaway: Click here to send me an e-mail with your name and mailing address — and the words GETTING LIPPY in the subject line — to be entered to win free products. I’ll pick two winners, who’ll each receive two MAC lipsticks and two NYC glosses, from the entries received by Friday, Aug. 10. Good luck!Update: Congratulations to readers Amy Guzzetta of Chandler and Dena Cashatt of Mesa, who’ll be receiving their packages in the mail this week.

So, I’ve been sitting on this photo — not literally — for almost a month now, trying to figure out if I wanted to open up this particular can of worms. I mean, how judgmental can I really be when I wore Tevas to work on Friday? (Yes, it’s true.)However, this was just too good to pass up. A friend snapped this at a recent wedding she went to in the Midwest. I hasten to point out recent wedding because everything about this woman might have been a good idea a few decades ago — might. The short feathered bangs and the stringy-style perm … which has a good 3 inches of straightened roots. Never, never, NEVER a good look. This says "Ratt groupie."And the dress: Originally I had a couple of paragraphs, but after a good night’s sleep, here it goes: Stevie Nicks called, and she wants her ’80s bridesmaid dress back. This is horrible. This is frightening. If you have any of these components in your wardrobe — yes, those lace-up boots count — you need to get rid of them right now. But: Is this the worst you’ve seen? I’m thinking that, like "Hot Ghetto Mess," there are a lot of people out there in need of a good course of correction. Not a Stacey-and-Clinton-style intervention, but a "did you know you were a Glamour don’t?" kind of thing. So send me your snapshots of the tragedies you run across, and I’ll post the best — worst? — here and have a comments contest: Best one wins something from my "stash of booty" drawer. Starting .. now! (Get to work.)

In a climate where flip-flops and sandals are year-round options, keeping your feet in condition for public display is never not an option. Luckily, there’s no shortage of items designed to help soothe — I mean, smooth — the soles…. A radical notion: No matter how refreshing mint may be, some people don’t want their feet to smell like chewing gum. Summer Soles goes for the sweet tooth instead: The Texas company’s Farm Fresh Fine Scrubs ($30) come in Early Apple, Sweet Cream and — yum! — Whipped Honey scents. Each signed, hand-packed jar uses granulated sea salt for fine exfoliation, plus rice bran oil to moisturize without a slippery, greasy effect. The scrubs even made Oprah’s favorite things list in March! Online: summersoles.com. Former Valley resident Deborah Lippmann has expanded her nail care and polish Lippmann Collection line to include pedicure products such as the two-part Soul Mission ($48) foot smoother. Start with the grapefruit-scented scrub, then add a few drops of Some Like It Hot warming peptide activator to ramp up the exfoliation process and leave feet soft. (The only downside: You have to do it near a tub or other place to rinse it all off.) Extra-tough cases might require a spritz of Get Off callus softener spray ($38), followed by a session with a paddle sander. Find them at Nordstrom, Chandler Fashion Center.Imagine those self-stick tub-safety decals had a texture coarse enough to scrub rough skin off heels and soles. East Valley nail technician Connie Guzzo created just that: Kik-n-It exfoliating pads ($19.95) should be used on wet feet during a bath or shower. They’re sold in white, black and yellow at 39 Nails, 961 W. Ray Road, Chandler, or kik-n-it.net.

It helped make stars of The B-52s, ’80s hair-metal rockers, Amy Winehouse and to a great degree, Donald Trump. And starting last weekend, it might just add that much more volume to the careers of John Travolta and Michelle Pfeiffer, stars of the recently released "Hairspray."In honor of the movie inspired by the Broadway musical, inspired by the 1988 John Waters film, I asked experts at East Valley stores to discuss their best-selling brands of hair spray.(Note 1: After this article ran July 22, I got a lot of calls from women excited that the Kenra line was sold here. Click here to find which stores carry it.)(Note 2: I actually saw the movie and loved Amanda Bynes as best friend Penny Pingleton and Elijah Kelly as Seaweed. Did you recognize Jerry Stiller — who played Tracy’s dad in the original movie — as Mr. Pinkie? And I think Mink Stole — Corny Collins’ assistant in the original — was the first teacher who sends Tracy to detention.) SEBASTIAN SHAPER AND SHAPER PLUS: In a happy coincidence, bottles of Shaper and Shaper Plus were used during filming of the movie "Hairspray" — labeled as Ultra Clutch on set, sprayed on stars’ styles backstage — so Sebastian created look-alike versions now in stores. "A lot of clients spray their brush with it, then run the brush through their hair," says Patti Shoffman, manager of BeautyFirst at Scottsdale 101 shopping center, Scottsdale Road and Mayo Boulevard. When Shoffman pulled the store’s 100 top-selling SKUs, Shaper ($13.50) was "way up there," she says."Everyone seems to like it the best," says Jane Brooks, manager of Beauty Brands at Fulton Ranch Towne Center, Arizona Avenue and Ocotillo Road, Chandler. "It’s got good hold in the heat or humidity, plus it’s a really big can.""It flies off the shelf like crazy here," agrees Feliciano Abad, salon manager at Ulta at Superstition Gateway, Signal Butte Road and U.S. 60, Mesa.Customers who need more hold head toward Shaper Plus ($13.95). "It just gives them a little more oomph," Shoffman says, "and keeps the frizz at bay, which is great for people with curly hair."
KENRA VOLUME SPRAY: "Kenra is beginning to move up and become well-known," says Shoffman.Salon professionals who voted at Behindthechair.com awarded Kenra Volume Spray 25 ($13 for 10.1 ounces) the Stylist Choice Award for favorite hair spray in 2007 — and in 2006, and 2005. In fact, Kenra sells more than 4 million bottles a year in the U.S. and Canada."It’s the No. 1 pick of stylists," Abad says, and customers like it because it has "a pleasing smell, not alcohol-y. It’s very popular with our fine-haired clients." BIG SEXY HAIR SPRAY AND PLAY:
"This is particularly good for our long-haired clients, since it gives a good hold at the root area," Abad says. "When you think of the name, it conjures up images of sex-kitten hair." Sexy Hair’s spray sells for $15.95.FEKKAI SHEER HOLD HAIRSPRAY: "Back in the day, hair that had been sprayed would look crunchy," says Rachel Basilo, skin care expert at Sephora in Chandler Fashion Center. But thanks to Fekkai’s flexible hold, hair remains "brushable and movable," she says. And avocado oil adds shine, so many customers consider it a two-in-one product.Another bonus: The 1.5-ounce trial size ($9) falls under aviation travel guidelines for carry-on bags. "We have a little beauty-to-go section in the store, and we’re stocking (the hair spray) daily," Basilo says. A 5.8-ounce bottle sells for $23 and an 11.6-ounce bottle, which Basilo says should last for about two years, is $35.

This week’s "shootie" — a horrible word right up there with "Brangelina" — is significantly less expensive than last week’s Mystery Shoe (which was a $598 Chloe bootie that goes at Neiman Marcus, if you couldn’t figure it out — and congratulations to Crazy H, whose estimate was closest to the actual price). In fact, it’s on sale for about 1/10 as much. And, sure, it looks a little stiffer - OK, a lot stiffer — and less luxurious than the previous pair, but if you save $500 and still have money for lunch left over, I bet your feet will survive just fine. So: Would you wear it, and is it worth $59.99? Leave your comments below. (If you think so, it’s called "Kim" by east5th, and it’s sold at J.C. Penney.)And don’t forget — there’s a new shoe to vote on every Thursday.

The Web site Etsy.com is equal parts showplace and marketplace for crafty people to display and sell their wares — you’ll find everything from hand-turned wooden bananas to felt pins to cereal bowls shaped like brains. Dozens of East Valley entrepreneurs stretch their business wings here — they might not have their own Web sites or local vendors yet, but Etsy marks their first step toward … global domination!Find three of them after the jump … For about a year now, Chandler mom Danielle Shand, 30, and her sister have produced the Eat Your Peas line for kids — handmade items from bibs to nursery pillows to pacifier lanyards that keep ‘em from hitting the floor when dropped. They’ve also got original-design onesies and T-shirts in sizes from newborn to 4T. My favorite is the sweetly nostalgic Dakota ($16-$18), which uses red stitches to affix a patch featuring a rootin’, tootin’ little boy. (The equal-opportunity Dixie design features a sassy, strutting cowgirl.) The eye-catching jewelry from Suzanne Erickson of Higley inspires people to walk up and offer to buy what she’s wearing. (Ever the businesswoman, she’s happy to comply.) Much of her Periwinkle Studios jewelry — like these Aurora Borealis dichroic glass earrings ($16; matching bracelet $30) — is online, but Erickson says she also enjoys creating custom work, which has ranged so far from $12 to $120, depending on materials. E-mail: periwinklesuz at cox.net. width=”250″ src=”/old_images/19/plainjaneearrings.jpg” />Christina "Xappa" Franco of Tempe has set a record with her jewelry: She uses actual vinyl 45s — black, red, even the amber ones shown — to create her Plain Jane earrings ($20). In addition to her Etsy site she sells some pieces at Swell Clothing, 524 S. Mill Ave., Tempe. (Check out her MySpace profile, SpaceCadetJewelry, to contact her for custom work.)

This week, a twist on the traditional Shoe Hot or Not game: I’m not saying how much this Italian-made leather bootie costs … at least not right away.By the way, if you love the bootie (which is different from loving the booty) you’re going to love this fall: Luxury retailer Neiman Marcus has four pages of booties for sale on its Web site. So, two questions: How much do you think this sells for? And how much do you think it’s worth? Leave your estimates in the comments section, then come back and highlight the paragraph that exists below. The answers will be revealed. …And don’t forget — there’s a new one to vote on every Thursday.Chloe bootie, $598 at Neiman Marcus.

When I was trolling through my favorite Web sites, I found this video on !!omg blog!! that’s kind of awesome: Footage of a Gwen Verdon dance performance, set to "Walk It Out" by Unk. Who knew ’70s-era white ladies could dance like that? (This should be self-evident, but just in case: Watching this video is significantly less fun if you don’t have the sound on your computer.)

Late last month, U.S. senators gathered on Capitol Hill to commemorate Seersucker Thursday. Look above left: You do not want to look like these people. (Sorry, Trent Lott and Dianne Feinstein. OK, not really.)But the seersucker at right is from Web retailer Cordarounds, which has created something just different enough to be noticeable: The stripes on their seersucker pants ($50) are horizontal instead of vertical. (The trousers are also cut slimmer for a more flattering fit, with flashes of color at the pocket and lining.) Also on sale: shorts for $40, and BabyRounds are on sale for $20. Yeah, I thought that makeup primer sounded silly at first, too — but one trial convinced me it sets the perfect palette for everything from concealer to shadow. So consider Orlane Super-Moisturizing Serum ($190) a moisturizer primer: Its high concentration of hyaluronic acid helps boost skin’s hydration under any moisturizer, plus other ingredients are designed to firm and regenerate skin. It’s sold at Neiman Marcus, Scottsdale Fashion Square. The Victoria’s Secret coed apparel line Pink has been so popular, body care products were inevitable. They’ve rolled out fresh, young-scented body spritz ($15), lotion ($12) and soap on a rope ($10) in three fragrances: Fruity & Bright (blackberry and vanilla), Fresh & Clean (apple and lily) and Sweet & Tart (sugar and grapefruit). They’re sold at Victoria’s Secret stores and online.
